Blue Smoke Quartz was found in 2017 in the Santander Province in Columbia. The crystals have swirling clouds of microscopic inclusions that give them a wispy “blue smoke” appearance. This effect is produced by the same light scattering properties that make the sky blue, the Tyndall effect. The crystals also contain a rare mineral called cookeite, which is a lithium rich mineral that resembles the looks of tiny little metallic flakes.
